CITE / BIBLIOGRAPHY
Claude Nicolas Ledoux
Ledoux, Claude Nicolas , 1736-1806, French architect. He built palaces
and various public buildings, among them the tollhouses (barrieres) around
Paris (1784). His main work was the planning of an ideal city, "Chaux,"
for the salt mines of the Franche-Comte; it was never built. His fame and
importance, however, rest chiefly on his treatise L'architecture consideree
sous le rapport de l'art, des moeurs et de la legislation (1804).
