Hanako is asked by a stranger about the way to Kinkakuji Temple
in Kyoto.
（花子は見知らぬ人から京都にある金閣寺に行く道を聞かれています。）
Stranger: Excuse me, but (1) will you tell me the way to Kinkakuji Temple?
(見知らぬ人）：（すみませんが、金閣寺に行く道をおしえてくださいませんか。）
Hanako: I'm afraid I'm a stranger here myself. (2) How about asking
a policeman over there?
（花子）：（私もこのあたりはよく知らないんですが。）（向こうにいる警官に聞かれたらどうですか。）
Stranger: All right. (3) Thank you just the same.
（見知らぬ人）：（そうですね。どうも、ありがとう、ございました。
Hanako: You're welcome.
（花子）：（どういたしまして。）
練習（A） 上の中から３つの重要な表現を取り出して、練習しましょう。
1. Will you tell me the way to Kinkakuji Temple?
（金閣寺へ行く道をおしえて下さい。）
2. How about asking a policeman over there?
（向こうにいる警官に聞いてみてはどうですか。）
3. Thank you just the same.
（どうも、ありがとうございました。）要求にこたえられないとき。
練習（B） 基本会話の下線部の表現を次のように言い換えて練習しましょう。

Yasuo is asked by a stranger about the way to Mitsukyo Station in Yokohama.
（安男は見知らぬ人から横浜市にある三ツ境駅に行く道を聞かれています。）
Stranger: Excuse me. Could you tell me how to get to Mitsukyo Station?
（見知らぬ人）：（すみません。三ツ境駅に行く道をおしえていただけますか。）
Yasuo: (1) OK. (2) Go straight on for about five minutes,
and (3) turn right at the signals. (4) You'll find the station
on your left.
（安男）：（いいですよ。５分ほど、まっすぐに言って、信号のところを右に曲がって下さい。
左のほうに駅が見えますよ。）
Stranger: Thank you very much.
（見知らぬ人）：（ありがとう、ございました。）
練習（A） 上の中から４つの重要な表現を取り出して練習しましょう。
1. OK. （いいですよ。）
2. Go straight on for about five minutes. （５分ほど、まっすぐに行ってください。）
3. Turn right at the signals. （信号のところを、右に曲がって下さい。）
4. You'll find the station on your left. （左に駅が見えます。）
練習（B） 基本会話の下線部の表現を次のように言い換えて練習しましょう。
1. All right.

2. Go along this street for about five minutes.
Go straight on for two blocks. （２ブロックまっすぐに行ってください。）
3. Turn to the right at the signals.
